Camilla Franks kaftan queen right after a fashion

Cease calling Australian designer Camilla Franks the kaftan queen. Right after signing a deal yesterday with US department store giant Nordstrom that will see the Camilla brand sold in 26 cities, "fashion queen" will do just nicely.

"I am proud of having been the kaftan queen but it's no longer just about kaftans," Franks, 35, stated. "There are tops, dresses, accessories. The US market desires it all and you need to be clear about what you happen to be delivering and who you happen to be."

Camilla is already stocked inside the US at 22 Intermix boutiques but the Nordstrom deal is actually a key leap forward. It follows international publicity the label received when Oprah Winfrey wore certainly one of Franks' tops throughout her Australian tour in December.

"I am proud of what I have achieved in seven many years but I'm also proud in the perform I'm performing right here in Australia," Franks stated.

Yesterday she celebrated the expansion from the Camilla label having a show for her regional fans at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Festival Sydney, featuring her Labyrinth collection.

"This collection is filled with the kind of mad digital prints that only I am crazy enough to do as a designer," Franks stated. "The finest thing is the fact that this display is for the public, not only the media and consumers. After this they will go and get my clothing straight away."

Next week a piece of Camilla will price less, with department store David Jones launching a lower-priced range featuring her distinctive hippie style.

"I'm interested in covering all sectors from the industry and various price tag points," Franks stated. She is planning to expand into children's clothing and homewares.

"I'll usually do kaftans since they are a component of who I'm," she extra. "But now they're just a modest portion."
